Sedation Dentistry
Lake City Dental provides several sedation treatments to help patients with dental anxiety or fear feel more comfortable during their appointments with our dentists. We welcome you to call us at 801-266-4427 to learn more about sedation dentistry in Murray, Utah, and to schedule an appointment with Dr. Morgan Smith to discuss your options.
Sedation dentistry is a wonderful choice for patients who feel anxious or nervous about their dental treatment. Sedation dentistry involves using a sedative medication to help you feel more relaxed and calm during your visit. There are several types of sedation dentistry available based on your individual needs and preferences:
- Nitrous oxide (N2O), also known as laughing gas. This sedative gas is mixed with oxygen and inhaled during your treatment to help you feel more relaxed. Nitrous oxide is a mild form of sedation that wears off within just a few minutes after we stop the flow of gas.
- Oral sedation, which involves taking an oral medication before your treatment. By the time of your appointment, you will feel calm and at ease.
- IV sedation, which involves administering sedative medication intravenously (through the veins). This method of delivery enables our Dentist to provide the sedation more quickly, as well as easily control the level of sedation to ensure that you stay comfortable. IV sedation is a form of conscious sedation, meaning that it will not make you unconscious, but you may feel so relaxed that you fall asleep during your treatment. You may also not remember all of the details of your visit.
Sedation dentistry will help you feel more comfortable during your treatment. Our experienced Dentist and team will ensure that your entire treatment is safe. Each member of our team is highly trained, and we will carefully monitor you during your visit. Depending on your sedation option, you may need to have a friend or family member available to drive you to and from your appointment.
If you suffer from dental anxiety, if you have had negative experiences at the dentist in the past or if you simply feel nervous about your treatment, sedation dentistry can help you feel more at ease. Sedation dentistry is also a good choice for patients who have difficulty getting numb or who have an extremely sensitive gag reflex.

NITROUS OXIDE (LAUGHING GAS)
Dr. Morgan Smith may recommend nitrous oxide for patients who feel anxious or uncomfortable in our office. This mild sedative helps you relax during your treatment, and wears off quickly enough that you can even drive yourself home. Call Lake City Dental at 801-266-4427 to learn more about nitrous oxide in Murray, Utah, and make your appointment with our caring dentists.
Do you ever feel nervous about visiting the dentist? Does your upcoming treatment make you feel anxious? If so, you may benefit from nitrous oxide (N20) sedation at our office. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a nitrogen-oxygen mixture that you inhale through a nose mask during your treatment. As you breathe in the nitrous oxide, you will experience a relaxed or even euphoric sensation. Nitrous oxide can help you feel calm and at ease throughout your treatment. Nitrous oxide sedation is very safe: the effects will wear off within just a few minutes after we remove your nose mask, and you can legally and safely drive yourself home after your appointment.
Nitrous oxide is a good option for any of our patients who suffer from dental anxiety or dental phobia. If you feel anxious because you are receiving a treatment you have not experienced before, or if you simply dislike the sounds and sights of the dental office, we may recommend nitrous oxide to help you feel more relaxed. Be certain to discuss your concerns with our Dentist and team before your visit so we can help you feel more comfortable during your treatment. We invite you to contact us today to learn more!
IV SEDATION
Dr. Morgan Smith may recommend IV sedation if you have more severe dental anxiety or fear. IV (intravenous) sedation is a conscious sedation treatment, though patients often report feeling as if they were asleep during their treatment. To learn more about IV sedation in Murray, Utah, and to make an appointment with our dentists, contact Lake City Dental at 801-266-4427.
Before we can provide you with IV sedation, our dentists will need to meet with you in a consultation, during which we will discuss your medial history, dental needs, and other relevant factors. If you receive IV sedation, we will monitor you carefully throughout your treatment to ensure that no complications occur. IV sedation is very safe, and there is almost never any cause for concern.
You will be awake and aware of where you are and what is happening during your treatment, and should be able to follow any instructions our dentists provide.
You will need to have someone available to drive you home following your treatment, and we recommend that you have someone available to stay with you for a few hours after returning home until the anesthesia wears off.
